Band 6:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a BSL interpreter to join our Team within Interpretation & Translation, NHS Tayside.


The Corporate Equalities, Interpretation & Translation Service provide BSL interpretation throughout Tayside, within Acute Services, Health & Social Care Partnerships across Tayside, Primary Care and Independent Contractors.

You will work closely with the Team Lead and other BSL / Spoken Language interpreters to deliver a high-quality service to patients, carers and their families in Tayside.


BSL Interpreters will be supported to develop their skills and competencies which will allow them to operate as autonomous practitioners with mínimal supervision of their work.

- you must have BSL / English interpreting experience
- be registered with SRLPDC (Scottish Register of Language Professionals with the Deaf community) OR National Registers of Communicating Professionals working with Deaf or Deafblind people (N.R.C.D.

P) as:

  • Trainee / fully registered interpreter
  • Have ability to travel throughout NHS Tayside
- you will be required to be on an Out of Hours on call rota
- with an opportunity to deliver Interpreter Awareness training sessions and translation of documents into BSL.

You must have an understanding of working with the Deaf community and Deaf culture. You must work within your limitations and interpreting boundaries and adhere to your registration bodies Code of Ethics.

Hours of work:
Applications welcome for full-time or part-time.

To meet the demands of the service the core working hours will be between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, with an on-call rota system in place.

The Interpretation & Translation Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.
