Description

HTS (Property & Environment) Ltd provides housing repairs & maintenance and environmental services for the tenants and residents of Harlow.


We are now seeking for an experienced and qualified Arborist to carry out tree works as part of a wider team to Harlow Council tree stock and for external partners or clients effectively, safely and according to specifications with the use of appropriate machinery and equipment, working to current industry standards.


Therefore, you must have arboricultural/forestry experience and tree climbing experience with the use of chainsaw, along with the following certification: NPTC CS30.1/30.2, NPTC CS31, NPTC CS38.

A full valid UK driving licence is also essential.


You need to have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team and be comfortable communicating with clients where necessary.

Principal Accountabilities

Duties

  • Ability to undertake physical demanding work, carrying out all aspects of tree works with the use of appropriate machinery and equipment, working to current industry standards.
  • Ability to use, maintain and direct the use of appropriate plant, equipment and machinery i.e. Chainsaws, wood chippers and stump grinding equipment.
  • Clear brushwood and arisings from tree work operations and process with a chipper as required.
  • Fell & dismantle and rigging of trees, clear windblown trees.
  • Ability to climb trees, carry out pruning & dismantling operations utilising safe and effective work methods.
  • Operate a chainsaw from a rope & harness.
  • Carry out thinning, coppicing and clearfelling works.
  • Understanding of hazards, the risks involved and be able to put in place methods or procedures to manage these.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a clear and polite manner with colleague, clients and members of the public.
  • Preserve physical structure of trees by bracing and supporting methods and promote retention of habitat and biodiversity improvement where possible.
  • Assist the team in traffic management and control where required.
  • Plant trees, shrubs or hedging utilising a range of techniques appropriate to the site conditions, size and presentation of plant material. Install stakes and support structures, fix ties or other securing devices to planting.
  • Provide young tree maintenance, formative pruning and irrigation where required.
  • Whilst working in housing areas carry out work at reasonable convenience and with minimum disturbance to residents.
  • Liaise with residents or tenants where appropriate.
  • Able to work outdoors at all times of the year in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
Vans

  • Comply with company's driving and licence vetting arrangements.
  • Maintain vehicle log book.
  • Carry out driver's safety and mechanical checks before the vehicle is taken on the road.
  • Drive the vehicle safely and with consideration to other road users.
  • Take responsibility for vehicles or items of plant and be accountable for avoidable damage and wear. Be responsible for the security of the machine and contents whilst at work.
  • Be aware of legal requirements and safety regulations in respect of vehicles or items of plant.
  • Comply with the company's damage and accident reporting procedures.
Plant & Machinery

  • Carry out daily and prestart checks according to manufacturers instructions. Inspect and assess serviceability, take appropriate action as required.
  • Carry out daily or weekly maintenance according to the manufacturers instructions.
  • Operate the machine safely and effectively.
  • Ensure safe operating procedures and risk assessment outcomes are followed. Take appropriate action during adverse weather conditions and machinery breakdown.
  • Carry out works adjacent to roads, cycle tracks and footpaths using signs, layouts and methods of work as detailed in "Safety at Streetworks and Roadworks".
  • Prepare for and carry out aerial tree rescue operations safely & effectively.
  • Contribute to LOLER procedures.
  • During periods of sickness and holidays standin for line management or other arborist members.
  • Respond to and take appropriate action in emergencies.
  • Report hazards & accidents to line management both promptly and accurately.

Other responsibilities

  • Optional Emergency out of hours call out rota.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the business as reasonably required.
