Our Student and Registry Services are responsible for providing services to all students throughout their time at UCL and for supporting academic departments and administrative staff in delivering a high quality student experience.

We also play a key role in co-ordinating UCL's governance processes and academic quality assurance operations.

UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Services (SSW) provides information, advice and welfare support for all registered students, including delivery of related student events.

UCL's Student Psychological and Counselling Services (SPCS) are part of Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW).

SSW provide holistic support for all students at UCL, helping them to stay well and perform at the best of their ability.

In SPCS we undertake psychological assessments of individual students in order to help them identify and solve their problems, to identify clinically significant disorders as appropriate, and to help students determine and pursue the most appropriate treatment plan.

We provide high-quality, time-limited individual cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic counselling, psychiatric support and personal development workshops both face to face and online via telephone and video.

We are a multi-disciplinary Team made up of Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.

We liaise with and refer to other professionals within and outside SPCS as appropriate, in order to provide optimal care/treatment planning for students.

We maintain close links with other student services and personnel within the University, including the Director of Student Support and Wellbeing, the Disability, Mental Health and Welfare Support team, Rights and Advice team, Careers team, GP practices as well as academic and non-academic staff.

SPCS also maintain good working relationships in order to ensure appropriate support for students with other services and personnel in the NHS and Voluntary Sector.

We offer clinical supervision, management supervision and a weekly clinical meeting.


About the role:


They will do this by providing assistance to the daily duty practitioner by making follow up contact with students registering with SPCS and presenting with risk, by providing information and advice to students with wellbeing needs registering with SPCS and attending SSW safeguarding meetings.

In undertaking these responsibilities, the post holder will liaise with students and across Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW) team, especially with Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing (DMHW).

Where appropriate they will liaise internally across UCL with students' academic departments, and Professional Services divisions.

They will also liaise externally with organisations such as the NHS, voluntary and private services supporting UCL students and, where appropriate, Next of Kin/Trusted Contact.


About you:


To excel in this role, you will need experience working with people who have a wide range of disabilities and mental health difficulties, excellent understanding of UK disability legislation and confidentiality and data protection issues.

You should have a relevant professional qualification in the mental health field, experience mentoring or supporting individuals with mental health difficulties and experience of advising students on a wide range of wellbeing matters.


You are highly organised and able to prioritise, and are able to manage your own workload, as well as supervise or coordinate the work of others.

You also have excellent administrative skills including the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records, and excellent IT skills including MS Office.

You are a confident and clear communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to listen and advise, exercise tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
