  • Are you looking for a challenging and exciting role at the centre of flood and coastal risk management in the Environment Agency?
We're looking for an aspiring technical leader to join our Flood Risk Data and Evidence team in Yorkshire. You'll be responsible for leading a Workstream of amazing technical people.

There is one permanent post and one assignment until end of January 2024 with the possibility of this post becoming permanent also.

You'll be an enthusiastic, organised, motivational individual with high standards and a proven record of technical project delivery. You'll support the team leader to develop and motivate team members. This is a great opportunity to expand your leadership experience in a high performing and dedicated team.

Collaboration with our National Data projects, Programme and Contract Management colleagues and our Area Partnership and Strategic Overview teams is essential for effective delivery.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • Our Partnership & Strategic Overview (PSO) teams develop the technical knowledge needed to deliver a strategic overview of flooding, providing compelling evidence to support our vital Flood Risk work. The Data & Evidence PSO team coordinate the use of spatial data across the Area through strong data management and technical support, turning data into useable information.
We are a large friendly team who work from both home and the office, we are based across Yorkshire.

  • Experience/skills required
  • Through your experience you will ideally be able to demonstrate all the following:
  • Have an engineering / science / geography background or a relevant degree / professional qualification
  • Strong technical skills and experience
  • Proven track record of delivering a technical programme of work
  • A strong interest in developing and supporting people
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands
  • Be able to show where you've worked with others at a strategic level to deliver success
  • Be an intelligent problem solver, with a methodical work approach
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
