Language and Communication Practitioner Vacancy.

This is a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) role within Plymouth Autism Team at Step Up Speech and Language Ltd. Step Up Speech and Language is a highly reputable independent therapy service supporting children and families in Plymouth.

We are now recruiting for a Language and Communication Practitioner who will specialise in supporting preschool children with autism.

You will deliver evidence-based approaches to improve the life outcomes of children, extend their early communication skills and develop their skills towards talking.


Step Up Speech and Language was established in 2019 and since then, has grown to be a well-known and highly recommended independent therapy service.

Due to the success of this service, there is now a need to expand and help more children and families in Plymouth through our new service Plymouth Autism Team.


Our therapy service takes pride in the strong links and relationships that we've formed by working directly with families, preschools and school settings.

It's our commitment to bring out the best in children and help them to achieve their potential.


You will work under the guidance of a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to improve the lives of children with speech, language and communication difficulties.

This is a highly rewarding role that requires enthusiasm to learn new and exciting skills, and motivate children to communicate successfully.

You will work closely with parents to offer guidance and support as they learn new key skills to help support their children.


You will be an enthusiastic and dynamic practitioner, to deliver speech and language therapy services in accordance with the Code of Practice of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Location - Plymouth

Hours - Flexible (2 days per week)

Fee - £30 per session. You will provide between 4 to 5 -x 45 minute sessions per day. So daily earnings will be from £120 to £150.

You will be paid an additional £30 to attend supervision meetings with the Clinical Lead.

Contract - consultancy contract. Providing monthly invoices for the services you have offered.

Benefits - Travel costs of £0.45 per mile.


Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience of supporting autistic preschool children and their families.
  • Knowledge and experience of using evidence
  • Proven experience of supporting parents and families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to others and develop good working relationships.
  • Good timemanagement and organisation skills.
  • Ability to follow therapy plans, based on identified needs.
  • Good IT skills for administration, presentations, recording and reporting systems.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience of working with, or under the guidance of, a SLT.

Responsibilities

  • To liaise closely with the qualified SLT regarding children's therapy plans.
  • To deliver high quality therapy sessions with children at different settings under the support and guidance of the SLT.
  • To design, make and provide resources to support children's communication needs.
  • To contribute to therapy plans and share information regarding children's progress so therapy can be adapted to bring out the best in each child.
  • To provide regular feedback about children's responses to our therapy.
  • Remaining professional, knowledgeable and approachable, at all times in this role.
  • To complete administrative tasks as directed.
