Brief Description
Learning Support Assistant will work as part of a growing learning support and therapy team, supporting the education and social development of young people with special needs at the Academy helping them reach their full potential
Daily tasks
- To work with and support the pupils (either one to work or in small groups) enabling them to take part in all aspects of the curriculum;
- Invigilate or support with tests and examinations as directed;
- Assist in the supervision of children during the working day,
- Assist in the education and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the SEND Leadership Team;
- Assist in the implementation of Pupil Profiles, EHCPs, PSPs, PEPs and CAFs for students and help monitor their progress.
- Provide support for students, identified with SEN, inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
- Work with other professionals, such as the Speech therapists and advisory staff when necessary.
- Assist the SENCo with maintaining student records.
- Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected.
- Prepare and present displays of students' work, maintain the nurture area as an appropriate learning environment.
- To contribute to the organisation of classroom resources to ensure effective classroom management
- Maintain an accurate log of students supported and their progress.
- Develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the
- Take into account a student's special needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials.
- To supervise pupils during break and lunch time as appropriate
and to play.
- Help promote independent learning.
- Help reinforce learning.
- Help students' record work in an appropriate way.
- Develop study and organisational skills.
- Model good practice.
- To assist on outings and school trips with SEN students, travelling by foot, public transport or taxi as required.

Training and qualification
- Level 3 teaching assistant apprenticeship
- Training will be completed onsite at The UCL Academy. CPD weekly will contribute to the training.

Qualifications
- GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4/C9/A*) essential
- GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4/C9/A*) essential
Apprenticeship Duration
18 months
Details of Working week
pm daily with a 50 minute lunch break
37.5 hours a week
