This post is a part time 5PA substantive community-based post, principally dedicated to the Community Memory Assessment Service based at Mariner House, Ipswich.
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to work in a Community Memory Assessment Service.The CMAS Consultant will provide direct care for a small number of complex patients and will be available for face to face/ telephone/email/Microsoft Teams advice to the wider team.
The consultant will be the Designated Medical Prescriber providing clinical supervision to the Independent Nurse Prescribers in the team.All patients referred to CMAS have a comprehensive initial assessment undertaken by nursing staff.
Patients then receive a diagnostic appointment either with nursing staff or the Consultant for the diagnosis to be delivered and cognitive enhancing treatment started if appropriate.
Follow up of patients, including monitoring of specific drug treatment and post diagnostic support for dementia, is primarily done by nursing staff.
There is ready access to a comprehensive neuroradiology service and neuropsychology assessment.Assessment and support for more complex patients with dementia, who are ill-suited to be managed on an out-patient basis, is provided by the Older Peoples CMHTs.
