    The post holder will work within Estates but link closely with teams across the Trust to ensure a coordinated and systematic approach to security is maintained and effective support and guidance is provided to clinicians and managers in all aspects of security.

    We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, skilled and experienced person to be a specialist resource within the Division using their knowledge and experience of security to manage the in house and contract security provision to support improving standards of care and clinical practice.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will manage the in house security team and contract provision and act as a lead and central point of contact for Security activities.

    Reporting to the Head of Estates, the Head of Security will be responsible for managing all aspects of physical security with 24/7 shift team to ensure the provision of a secure and safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff.

    You will provide highly visible and authentic leadership to a large and multi-site team and continue to build the professionalism and skills of your team whilst looking to drive innovation and change.

    The successful candidate will have a strong track record of working on their own initiative and providing expert advice regarding all security matters.

    This role would suit individuals with a track record in creating a culture of exceptional delivery and managing change.

    Strong communication skills will be essential as the role includes extensive partnerships with our neighbours as well as external bodies including the Police, Council and other NHS Trusts.

    Person specification Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

    • Degree or equivalent experience
    • Further study at post graduate level or equivalent experience or training in the security field
    • Further specialist training and professional development in the security field or relevant experience

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Experience of working in a senior management role in the NHS or military sector organisation
    • Substantial experience in managing people and budgets
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated in a variety of senior and complex settings
    • Ability to manage difficult/stressful situations and conversations
    • Highly developed analytical and numeracy skills
    • Able to concentrate for either prolonged periods, or shorter periods of time with intense concentration due to the varied nature of the role
    • Experience of security operational management

    Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

    • Hold a current certified Accredited Security Management Specialist (ASMS) qualification registered and accredited by NHS protect.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Able to present and communicate confidential, highly sensitive and complex information relating to security to all levels, including Trust Board.
    • Proven ability to work across organisational boundaries and to develop constructive working relationships within and outside the NHS – relationship management in a complex environment
    • Experience of working with at a senior level with Clinical Directors and Executive Directors
    • Experience of operational management in an Acute Trust or relevant experience
    • Significant experience of developing security training programmes
    • Working Knowledge of current social, political environment and government security threat status
    • Significant strategic experience of operating within complex environments
    • Substantial experience in developing and managing teams
    • Highly developed interpersonal, persuasive, influencing and negotiating skills
    • Ability to develop strong working relationships to lead and motivate others
    • Evidence of strategic thinking ability
