Programme Officer (Substance use and TB):
Job description


Full Time / 37 hours per week / Fixed-term up to end of March 2025.
Extension may be possible dependent on further funding.

Join our public health team and help drive forward the work on our substance use and tuberculosis (TB) strategies.


Public health is creating a new post to work with internal and external stakeholders on helping to deliver on the reduction of drug and alcohol-related harm in the City, specifically focussing on tuberculosis (TB).

The post will sit within the public health division and work across our two small substance use and health protection teams.

This is a full time fixed term position working Monday to Friday.


What you'll be doing
These are exciting developments within public health and the post holders will be leading the day to day response to tackling drug and alcohol-related harm in relation to TB


Work will include:

  • Working collaboratively with local and regional specialist staff to support the development, coordination and implementation of our TB strategy.
  • Raising awareness among professional staff and members of the community regarding TB and its association with drugs and alcohol.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships between the council and other organisations including substance misuse services, TB services and individuals/ groups with lived experience of both.
  • Supporting and coordinating the delivery of programmes arising from the Leicester City Council drug and alcohol and TB strategies and other relevant national and local policy initiatives.
  • Supporting the evaluation of the Tb strategy and its impact, including providing reports on patterns and trends in TB incidence in the city.
  • Working with departments across the council to secure a collective approach within council services to reduce drug and alcohol related harm.

What you'll need

You must be able to have:
Experience


Experience of working collaborative with a range of individuals and public sector agencies including those within public health and ideally substance use and/or TB services.

Experience of contributing to the commissioning of public health or other public sector related services through for example, stakeholder engagement, identification of needs, procurement of services; working as part of a project team and motivating others; some experience of co-working with a range of partners and stakeholders regarding shared objectives.


Skills:


IT skills sufficient to produce briefing reports, presentations, and project progress documentation for a variety of audiences; excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills including the ability to present data and complex information.

Good understanding of


Project management including evaluation of outcomes; of national and local health care, drugs and alcohol and TB services and public health work in general.

Commitment to

Keeping abreast of developments in the substance misuse and TB fields and to evidenced-based practice and service improvement.

Able to work flexibly and travel regularly to different locations around the city and occasionally further afield.
