Description

We are looking for a Business Development Director who is self-motivated, has excellent attention to detail, and is keen to lay roots within a company that are growing year on year.


The Business Development Director will create and build a pipeline of prospective customers, and covert those prospects into Whistl UK customers.

You will plan and prioritise sales activity, including research, tenders and pitches, to bring on new customers,consistent with company strategy and objectives.


Your overall target of carrier net revenue will be £500k+ per annum traded, and each customer should be profitable and meet the margin expectations agreed in line with business goals.


This Business Development Director position is a home-based national role.

Alongside salary OTE earning up to £80k per annum with company car/allowance.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Deliver targets within budget to meet the requirements of the business through thoughtful engagement with target audience(s).
  • Generate leads and followup on leads received from internal and external sources.
  • Achieve assigned goals and targets for the territory or group of potential customers/accounts as agreed.
  • Serve as key point of contact for identified prospective customers.
  • Promote and sell all Whistl Tracked and Partially Tracked services to potential customers; cross sell other Whistl products where appropriate.
  • Lead the tender process for potential new clients working closely with the Tender Manager.
  • Prepare client proposals, including product, service, and pricing terms, with customers within agreed limits.
  • Make formal tender presentations in order to secure new business wins.
  • Confirm new customer start date and service specifications with Operations and ensure contractually agreed service standards are provided; liaise with the operations and other functional areas to ensure any issues are resolved in a timely manner to thecustomer's satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the development/formulation of sales policy and strategy for the specific market sectors managed.
  • Ensure correct information/data is provided for billing purposes and facilitate prompt payment by customers.
  • Take a lead role in any new customer implementation processes or internal project teams.
  • Ensure a seamless handover of clients to the identified Account Manager when appropriate.
  • Understand and work within policy standards of individual customers to ensure service provisions/ requirements are fulfilled.
  • Conduct sales calls, carry out precall planning and preparation, and develop a selfanalytical approach in order to identify learning areas from each call.
  • Effectively utilise the relevant software (e.g. CRM systems) to maintain accurate and up to date records; provide related reports as required.
  • Attend and present at external customer meetings/sector forums to aid development of business.
  • Maintain an uptodate sales / technical knowledge of Whistl UK product portfolio.
  • Act as mentor for sales colleagues and provide support for the team in Line Manager's absence.

Essential Skills Typically, we would estimate that it would take around 7 years' experience, with a university degree or equivalent training and experience, to acquire the below skills:


Interpersonal:


  • High level of customer focus and understanding of customer needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to adapt communication style, amount and format based upon the audience.
  • Ability to influence at senior and executive levels.
  • Ability to conduct face to face presentations with prospective customers.
  • Ability to prioritise and coordinate multiple work requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Recognised as companywide expert across several products or sectors.

Technical:


  • Experience in the courier industry and market
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills, including ability to analyse data
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of the courier and parcel industry as well as knowledge of any specific market sectors (e.g. ecommerce, clothing, retail, manufacturing sectors and knowledge of the integrator's in the parcel market).
  • Indepth knowledge of Whistl products and services.
  • Fluency software operating systems, such as MS Office and customer relationship management systems.

Additional:


  • Frequent domestic travel and a full, valid UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills:


  • Welldeveloped network of industry contacts.
  • Project management experience.
