Teaching Assistant - SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health)

As a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who require additional assistance due to social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.

You will work closely with teachers and other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oneonone support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them with academic tasks and helping them develop social and emotional skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents/carers.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including group work, discussions, and practical tasks.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and locations, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working with individuals with social, emotional, and mental health challenges, ideally in a school or residential setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and respond effectively to changing situations.
  • A proactive approach to professional development, with a commitment to continuously improving your skills and knowledge in the field of SEMH support.
