The Role

The key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Participate fully in developing and implementing approaches to enhance the skills of our people across the full spectrum of partners, associates and business services staff worldwide
  • Design and deliver performance development/business skills learning and development programmes and revise our existing portfolio as appropriate
  • Assist in the delivery of our career structure compulsory development programmes ('International Academies') facetoface and virtually; in London/Newcastle and internationally as required
  • Undertake learning and development initiatives to support the implementation of Norton Rose Fulbright's strategy in relation to key clients, Sector campaigns and Market Groups
  • Undertake needs analyses, produce project plans, conduct associated research and deliver on improvement projects for teams/departments as required. To participate fully in the activities of the Learning and Development team and the wider People and Cultureteam and work closely with other business services teams (including across International offices) as required
  • Provide 11 training support where needed to associates and business services staff
  • Ensure that all courses have appropriate courseware such as updated slides and supporting materials
  • Project manage (i.e. steer, keep track of and communicate progress) the production of new learning initiatives/other projects, whether being delivered internally or via external suppliers. Work and communicate with identified stakeholders in a consistentand timely manner
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested

The team


The Learning and Development department (L&D) is one of the specialist areas in the Norton Rose Fulbright People and Culture function.

We align our learning and development portfolio to support key objectives and initiatives to help meet the firm's strategicobjectives.


We provide business skills, personal, leadership and management development courses/programmes which are available to Partners, associates, business services staff and the practice support team globally.

These are delivered by our in-house learning and developmentteam, in tandem with selected external suppliers.

We use a variety of teaching and learning methods including presentations, case studies, a variety of exercises and keynote speakers from the firm, to ensure that peoples' different learning styles are cateredfor.


The training (delivered face-to-face and virtually) is designed and delivered based on acknowledged best practice and the latest thinking in management, leadership, business development and personal effectiveness as well as blending knowledge and understandingof the firm's culture, values and procedures to provide training that is relevant to the work undertaken in the firm.


The team is leading the drive for the provision of online, 'just-in-time' learning and is developing a portfolio of online courses and e-learnings.


The team also provides customised sessions working in consultation with specific individuals, teams or groups, such as team development sessions.


Finally, we have an extensive webinar skills training offer available to clients of the firm, as well as high-value leadership programmes which are available, by invitation only, to senior in-house lawyers of the firm's key clients.


Skills and Experience Required

  • An experienced trainer, ideally with experience in a professional services environment
  • An excellent presenter (in both a facetoface and virtual environment) engaging, articulate, facilitative, sensitive and structured
  • An experienced instructional system design (ISD) practitioner with experience in designing classroom, virtual and bespoke business skill programmes
  • Interest in and knowledge of management in theory and in practice
  • Client focused understands the needs of the learner and how to make ideas practical and relevant; manages stakeholder relationships effectively
  • Outwardly and inwardly confident assertive in giving feedback and accepting feedback given to you; selfaware and willing to learn
  • Project management experience scopes, plans, implements and closes effectively; goal orientated
  • Organisationally savvy understands the organisational environment and navigates successfully within it
  • Creativity and innovation ability to look at problems from different angles
  • Adaptable able to absorb new information and make changes to the team's work/your approach accordingly
  • Solutionorientated, persistent and determined
  • Collaborative works effectively with and through people
  • Commercially aware understands the economic environment and market trends
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Practiced as a solicitor (desirable)
  • European language skills (desirable)
