There is an exciting apprenticeship opportunity to work with North Somerset Councils Heritage and Design Team in a key role supporting the Principal Conservation and Heritage Officer which is supported by Strode College.

What you will do in your working day:
The role will be to support the Principle Conservation and heritage Officer by:

  • Helping to provide advice on the conservation and management of heritage assets/ listed buildings within the context of development management and council owned assets
  • Contributing to the development of team policies and programmes for the conservation and management of heritage assets and historic landscapes in the area whilst supporting the council's priorities for economic growth and regeneration
  • Helping to identify opportunities and develop projects for the enhancement of North Somerset's heritage and historic sites through grant programmes, partnership and joint working to address degradation of historic assets
  • Developing and maintain good relations with other heritage organisations and promote the objectives of the council at local, regional and national level
  • Advising local voluntary heritage groups on how they can assist in the conservation and management of heritage assets where it accords with council's priorities and objectives
  • Communicating effectively with contractors, colleagues and the public, both verbally and in writing

The training you will be getting:
The historic environment advice assistant apprenticeship programme will be delivered using a mixture of monthly remote classroom activities, one to one tutoring support, online learning and workplace guidance and support and will cover the following topics:

  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Health and Safety
  • The Historic Environment
  • Legislation and Regulation
  • Communication
  • Stakeholders
  • Documentation and Compliance
  • Fundamentals of Archaeological Sites or Buildings
  • Assessment of Archaeological Sites or Buildings
  • Reports Writing
  • Project Management
Functional Skills in English and maths if required.
