Job description:


  • BEIS' internal communication is known across Whitehall for its distinctive and high performing employee engagement results. The awardwinning team is at the heart of BEIS' leadership and decisionmaking and influences departmental culture and behaviour through a high impact programme of communication and engagement.
  • From backing business to tackling climate change, this exciting role will play an important part in engaging staff in our mission to lead Britain's recovery.
  • Our Internal Communications Officers work across a number of key areas. You will be expected to support on one or a number of these in the course of your work.

These areas include:

  • Generating staff understanding of, and advocacy for the department's key policy areas.
  • Helping people find what they need to do their jobs and to navigate changes in corporate processes as these are introduced.
  • Supporting our top team so they engage with teams across the department in the right ways, build confidence in their leadership and visibility.
Staff engagement will be a crucial element to the success of this role.

You will need to find creative ways to elicit views and feedback from staff to ensure internal engagement and strategies we create are based on evidence and staff feedback.

Person specification:


  • Working within the internal communications team, you will support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of effective communications and engagement activity in support of our strategic priorities

You will:

  • Support the delivery of engaging internal events and internal communications activities which create motivated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic advocates for BEIS, and it's policies, whilst also keeping line managers and colleagues aware of issues that affect them.
  • Use a variety of digital channels, technologies and platforms to create and manage visual internal content, provide effective twoway communication between employees, and deliver seamless hybrid events.
  • Create engaging and thoughtprovoking articles by identifying interesting and unique stories around the department.
  • Engage with key partners around the organisation to agree relevant outcomes and objectives and provide proactive strategies and approaches to deliver these.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency of messaging across all communications and manage events and projects as required.
  • Identify the best methods of communicating, engaging with, and gaining insight from our audiences using a range of data sources; making recommendations around channel, format, frequency, content and delivery, and working closely with internal communication colleagues on delivery, including through our digital channels.
