Sellafield, West Cumbria & Risley, Warrington

What a Safety Case is:
A Nuclear Safety Case is important in keeping our workforce and the public safe from our nuclear hazards.

It is a body of evidence that justifies and demonstrates that nuclear hazards are adequately managed, that operations are safe and that associated risks are reduced to as low as reasonably practicable.

What Safety Case personnel do:

Safety Case professionals work on both projects and operations supporting facilities site-wide and through the full lifecycle from design, through operations, to decommissioning and demolition.

They are responsible for not only understanding and analysing the nuclear hazards and risks that could occur but also identifying how safety can be managed and ensuring robust controls are implemented in practice.

All roles within Safety Cases require you to operate as part of a multi-disciplined team, solving complex problems within a challenging context.

What you could do as Safety Cases graduate:

Early career personnel in safety cases can undertake roles as Nuclear Safety Assessors (focussing on understanding hazards and controls) or Safety Case Advisors (ensuring that safety controls are in place and maintained on a facility).

Under this graduate campaign, we are focusing on recruiting graduates to develop into a Nuclear Safety Assessment role.

These roles offer a career pathway, with foundational training that builds understanding of Nuclear Safety principles, and the opportunity to develop specialist technical skills in areas such as Criticality, Dose and Shielding or Radiological safety.

Graduates will get the opportunity for secondments (including into Safety Case Advisor roles) and can expect to work on a range of facilities or projects during their training, getting hands-on experience throughout.
