PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
This is not specifically a people management post.
The surgical fellow is a core and highly visible member of the cardiac surgical team, and is often the first port of call for all professionals within the organisation seeking surgical advice on patients on the ICU and cardiology wards. As such, s/he will be expected to maintain a professional demeanor, to develop communication skills, to adhere to Trust values, and to provide leadership to the multi-disciplinary team when this is necessary, during acute clinical emergencies.
Although not directly responsible for training the Surgical Care Practitioners, the surgical fellow is a colleague and teacher to the SCPs, and will on occasion take responsibility for teaching the professionals clinical interventions or procedures.
Fellows are encouraged to take leadership in developing protocols or guidelines for the greater multi-disciplinary team if they see a need.
