About the Company:
Level 3 Machinist Technician Apprenticeship Standard
Numac Engineering Ltd specialises in high quality precision engineering, with particular expertise in specialist low volume components using on-standard and difficult to work materials for use in challenging environments.
We are a sub-contract CNC machine shop (tuning and milling) producing components that are predominantly used in valves, chokes, pumps and associated equipment across a wide range of industry sectors such as: oil and gas, automotive, utilities and power generation.
Working week:
Monday: 8:00am to 3:30pm
Tuesday to Thursday: 8:00am to 4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am to 3:30pm
Total hours per week: 38
Expected apprenticeship duration:
42 Months

What does the job role involve?
- To set the machine using appropriate tooling in readiness to machine a component.
- To read and understand engineering technical drawings.
- To monitor the machining as it progresses and change any tooling where necessary to maintain the quality of the finished components.
- To be able to read and understand a CNC program and if necessary make minor modifications to the program to maintain quality and productivity.
- Adjust machine settings and controls as necessary when a problem arises.
- To monitor sizes and finishes using suitable measuring equipment.
- Machine parts to engineering drawings, using CNC lathes.
- Pay attention to health and safety and ensure proper personal protective equipment is being worn at all times.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As well as gaining a broad range of professional knowledge and experience, you will gain academic and vocational qualifications such as the Machinist Technician Apprenticeship Standard and Level 3 Extended diploma in Machining.
