Scope and Remit
To provide concise strategic planning, analysis and reporting for the Commercial department.


Responsibilities:


  • Assessing work stream/project performance which will include:
  • Reviewing proposed cost submissions to ensure that commercial risks to the business have been considered and mitigated, and that targets have been achieved;
  • Reviewing commercial performance of work streams and projects in conjunction with project teams and reporting back to RD;
  • Reviewing working practises and implementing changes to achieve better commercial performance of projects.
  • Liaising closely with the RD on the following key topics:
  • Assessing the overhead budget required for the Commercial department to allow the needs of the business to be delivered;
  • Managing the overhead budget set by the Board of Directors to ensure that the business needs are met whilst controlling overall spending;
  • Monthly reporting on the performance of the delivered projects and forecasting turnover and gross margin for the financial year;
  • Identifying and mitigating risks to regional P&L beyond those at project level.
  • In conjunction with Regional Management Team, continually review workload and supply chain requirements against supply chain resources to ensure that the requirements of the business can be met;
  • Engaging with subcontractors and suppliers as required by the business;
  • Involvement in Bid Team structure on all bids as deemed necessary by the 'Decision to Bid' process;
  • Ensuring that the business needs are met, and the commercial aspects of bids are completed;
  • Overall management of commercial team to include Quantity Surveyors (QS), Senior QS, Managing QS, Estimating, Purchasing and Admin staff;
  • In conjunction with the Managing QS/ Senior Estimator / Senior Buyer:
  • Assessing the overall performance of members of the commercial team;
  • Resource allocation;
  • Management of overall commercial workload to ensure that the department has appropriate capacity to deliver the requirements of the business.
Knowledge, training and experience required

  • Demonstrable experience within a Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager role;
  • Preferably construction/ interior refurbishment background;
  • Experience managing the commercial aspects of a £30M+ turnover company;
  • Experience of working on projects covering disciplines in retail and commercial;
  • Experience in training, leading and managing a team;
  • Degree qualified Quantity Surveyor;
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental safety requirements;
  • Computer literate with knowledge of the Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word and PowerPoint);
  • Driving license.
