About ExCeL London

We are a world-class venue based in the heart of London's Royal Docks, hosting over 400 events and welcoming 4 million visitors annually.

We recognise the role that every member of our team plays in our success.

We pride ourselves on placing our people at the heart of our business, with a positive culture that inspires, develops, recognises and rewards our team.

Purpose of the role:

The primary focus of this role is to provide a highly professional and effective front-line security service to our customers, clients, visitors, and staff; protecting our people and our assets.

This role can be deployed on the ground or within the Security Control Room. Security Officers can be re-deployed between the two areas at the discretion of the Head of Security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • High Performing Delivery of Security Services

As an ExCeL Security Officer, you will often be the first and last point of contact to our clients, customers, visitors and staff.

As such you will deliver security to the highest levels of integrity, customer service, behaviour and personal appearance when carrying out your role.

Whether deployed to the Security Control Room, ExCeL building, or the wider ExCeL Estate you will deliver a friendly, diligent and visible security presence.

You will ensure that duties are carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Assignment Instructions, and other guidance documents.

You will also conduct your duties in accordance with The Companies policies and procedures.

You will work towards the common goal of delivering world-class events. As part of the Security Team you are a vital element of our Security and Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

You will always be proactive, seeking to find and resolve issues within your work area; providing suggestions on how to improve our operation to the Security Management team.

You may be asked to see an improvement project through to completion.

You will support new starters through their induction process, passing on your knowledge and providing guidance.

If deployed to the Security Control Room you will become an expert in all security systems, providing support and guidance to newly-deployed Officers as and when required.

You may be required to cover shifts for the Control Room Supervisor role.

All Security Officers will be provided with detailed training on but not limited to security operations, incident management, customer service, counter-terrorism, event operations, physical intervention and first aid.

You will be required to attend 6 training days per year and pass mandatory tests.

  • Pro-Active Security Patrols
You will be required to conduct daily patrols either within the main building or across the estate. The patrols will be in support of ExCeL London's Security & Counter Terrorism Strategy. Patrols will also support the Health & Safety Policy, assisting in conducting patrols and checks as required.

Patrols are conducted 24/7 and quite often in inclement weather (appropriate PPE is issued to all Officers).

You will pro-actively engage with our estate partners including businesses and residents, reporting back any issues or improvements to the Security Management Team.

  • Incident Response & Management

As an ExCeL Security Officer you will regularly be tasked to attend or deal with incidents (both minor and major).

You may often be the first person on the scene where you will provide updates to the Security Control Room / Management Team.

You will be able to remain calm under pressure and assess situations and risks, making decisions on the best course of action within your remit.

If deployed to the Security Control Room, you will manage incidents from there providing support and assistance to the ground-deployed Officers whilst ensuring the Security Management Team are kept up to date on any incidents or occurrences.

You will likely be sent to meet with victims of crime and will be required to take a first account statement from the victim, collate/preserve evidence and assist with follow-up action either internally or liaising with Police / Emergency Services.

As such you will maintain your pocket notebook to a high standard and in accordance with procedures.

Other duties may include actioning ExCeL's Emergency Procedures, evacuating/invacuating persons, setting up and managing cordon areas, conducting area searches, or coordinating incident management activity from the Security Control Room.

  • Use of Security Systems and Equipment

You will often use various items of equipment including but not limited to search & screening equipment, personal body-worn video cameras, PA / Loudhailers, radios and the Security Patrol Vehicle.

You will ensure you are fully versed in how to use all issued equipment - some of which will be personally issued to you.

These items of equipment are essential to the role and as such must be treated
