Research Lead (Public Engagement) - Inside IR3- 6 month initial

Overview
This is a unique opportunity to support a programme of public engagement and participation. This will aim to engage a wide range of experiences about the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in Scotland. You will lead on and support the research and analysis elements of the engagement and participation activities.


Responsibilities
You will

  • You will report to the Head of and lead an internal research and analysis team to plan and execute a series of report publications.
  • Lead the daytoday research and analysis elements, including the analysis itself, as well as the responsibility for ethics and peer review, data protection and other considerations.
  • Employ qualitative analysis tools, such as NVivo, to support the ongoing analysis and outputs of the listening project.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including engagement and participation staff, to ensure the successful operation and logistics of the project.
  • Work closely with the Project Engagement Lead to coordinate fieldwork activities, and link up research activities and analysis elements with public engagement and participation exercises.
  • Support and participate in the project's engagement and research activities, including travelling around Scotland.
  • Monitor risks, put mitigating actions in place and raise/escalate issues regarding delays/blockages.

Essential Criteria

  • Capable of leading a team effectively, motivating others, balancing efficiency improvements with wellbeing and career aspirations of colleagues.
  • Able to build constructive relationships with other analysts and users of research/analysis, demonstrating an understanding of the role of research and other analytical professions in policy/decision making, and ability to use evidence to challenge where necessary.
  • Able to evaluate and integrate research information from a variety of sources, taking account of relevant methodological developments, coming to logical conclusions and communicating recommendations effectively to senior nonspecialists, assisting them to take on key findings and their implications for decisionmaking.
  • Able to meet research user needs with the resources available and through appropriate collaborations, and an established track record in designing, carrying out and commissioning social research projects, managing research programmes, and providing research based advice and briefings.
