Summary
We are looking for a Music Teaching Assistant to join our well-resourced music department.

Harris Academy Peckham has a strong tradition in music.

We are part of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (Andrew Lloyd Webber) programme and all students in Year 7-9 have the opportunity to play an orchestral instrument and have a large uptake to GCSE Music.

You would be joining a strong team of classroom and peripatetic music teachers who offer an outstanding curriculum and extensive co-curricular music programme, with students able to access traditional instruments and a music technology suite.

Harris Academy Peckham are also fully involved with the Harris Federation Choir, Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Playing a full part in the musical life at the academy, both curricular and cocurricular
  • Supervising and supporting students, in 1:1, group or whole class situations, ensuring their safety and access to learning
  • Assisting in the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies, working with the teacher to ensure the provision supports each identified student's learning needs
  • Assisting in evaluating identified students' progress through agreed assessment activities
  • Providing detailed and regular feedback to teachers on students' achievement, progress and needs
  • Leading small group sessions and interventions as appropriate.
  • Attending to students' personal needs where required, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters
  • Supporting with behaviour management, using appropriate strategies in line with academy policy

Qualifications & Experience
We would like to hear from you if you:

  • Are strong practising musician with keyboard skills; ideally, you will be either a brass or string specialist
  • Hold qualifications to degree level or equivalent
  • Have basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers
  • Have some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours
  • Recognise some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
