Legal Counsel - Customer Team Member
Glasgow
As a Barclays Legal Counsel - Customer Team Member, you will work within the Customer & Digital, COO (Care) Legal team, which provides legal assistance for our Customer & Digital business, our Everyday Customer Care and Complex Customer Care operations. A key purpose of this role is to lead legal and strategic support for our Customer strategies: specifically, processes and strategies for servicing customers with more complex needs.

What will you be doing?
• Providing accurate technical and pragmatic legal advice, with an ability to work collaboratively, taking account of established external and internal legal and regulatory interpretation
• Identifying changes to laws, rules and regulations or developments in their interpretation (such as case law)
• Balancing the need for swift resolution of complaints and remediation projects with the requirement that best practice and a thorough consideration of all issues have been completed
• Adhering to risk and control policies including communicating, advising on and escalating legal and regulatory risks, and assisting with recommending and implementing solutions
• Building sustainable relationships with the Remediation, Complaints and Customer teams in order to ensure the best outcomes for both BUK and its Customers
• Helping to lead effective cost management and efficient relationships with external advisers
• Providing thought-leadership in relation to emerging industry and regulatory issues, consultation papers and thematic reviews
• Ensuring effective outcomes through working closely with other Legal teams, including product facing teams and with Litigation, as well as Compliance and Operational Risk
What we're looking for:
• Solicitor, barrister or legal executive qualified in the UK or equivalent commonwealth jurisdiction
• Either private practice or in-house experience within financial services
• Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills with ability to provide practical and accessible legal advice
• Willingness to take ownership of issues and projects and see them through to a successful conclusion
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Experience in resolution of complex and nuanced Customer issues, with the ability to work across a broad set of products presented by a retail-facing business
• Expertise in the regulatory dispute resolution framework, including exposure to the Financial Ombudsman Service
• Expertise in law and regulation applicable to the provision of retail financial services (for example, Consumer Rights Act and other general consumer protection laws)
• Experience of working in or with a financial services organisation
