We are recruiting for a
Learning Support Assistant to join an Ofsted Rated "Good with Outstanding features" mainstream secondary school in Barnet.

Due to an individual being promoted in the school, the SENCO is not looking for another LearningSupport Assistant to join their thriving and achieving team.


Job Role:

Learning Support Assistants work with both mainstream children and children who need additional support.

This includes children with physical disabilities, learning, emotional, behavioural or communication difficulties, conditions such as autism, dyspraxia,dyslexia and ADHD, sensory impairments (for example, visual impairment), sensory processing disorder, and mental health issues.

Learning Support Assistants may also work with gifted children.


Typical Job Duties and Accountabilities:


  • To work as part of a team under the direction of the class teacher to ensure that all children and young people in the class are supported to enjoy school and make the best possible progress
  • All staff are expected to do everything they can to protect the children and young people from harm and to make the learning environment safe
  • Support pupils to engage in learning activities, adapt tasks for individuals and assist them to make progress
  • Attend to the pupil's personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters
  • Supervise and support pupil ensuring their safety and access to learning in a clean and tidy environment
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate
  • Learn and use safe systems for moving, handling and physical interventions as appropriate Support for tutors
  • Be aware of pupil progress/achievements and report observations to the teacher in the agreed format
  • Supporting a positive homeschool relationship, by sharing information with parents and carers

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working in a school setting is desirable but not essential
  • A strong interest in helping young people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion for teaching and the ability to build relationships with students, teachers and parents
  • An ability to foster enthusiasm, imagination, energy and adaptability to students
  • Excellent analysis, decision making and time management skills
  • Experience working with children/young people who have any special educational needs
