Health and Safety ManagerPurpose of this position
To work closely with the Leadership team to develop and deliver an appropriate Health & Safety strategy for the business.
- Lead health and safety culture and behavioural change to eliminate the incidents of injury, mentoring and guiding employees and subcontractors to result in safety reform.
- Provide health and safety leadership that will lead and drive continuously improving the Health & Safety culture on site.
- Ensure the site is free from potential accidents;
- Responsible for creating a compelling health and safety vision and working across the business to build a positive health and safety legacy;
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety on site, on the shop floor, in the offices to comply with regulations.
- Develop and improve the Health & Safety culture across the business
- As part of developing the Health & Safety strategy develop, and manage an appropriate budget for Health & Safety
- Communicate and engage with the Health & Safety strategy to get everyone's buy in
- Develop, implement and ensure the company's Health & Safety Policy is complied with by all employees at all times
- Assume responsibility for workplace safety inspections on a daily basis to ensure the site is a safe place to work to prevent any injuries and monitor all Health & Safety in the work environment
- Ensure the business is compliant with all Health & Safety regulations
- Provide Health & Safety advice and support to employees and visitors at all levels
- Ensure regulatory requirements such as COSHH, RIDDOR and fire plans are met
- Monitoring and implement existing and incoming Health & Safety legislation to ensure the company complies with all the requirements
- Define, implement and conduct reviews of Health & Safety performance KPI's in accordance with the company strategic plans
- Recording and reporting all hazards, nearmisses, property damage, minor injuries and any lost time incidents (and owning the accident triangle reporting) as well as any emergency incidents and critical situations
- Manage emergency procedures and emergency teams e.g. Fire Wardens and First Aiders
- Ensure all accident and incident investigations are completed within a timely manner, providing reports, and identifying route causes and implementing action plans to prevent reoccurrence
- Manage third party contracts and build strong relationship with them to ensure a safe working environment
- Monitor and control PPE to ensure compliance
- Encourage and sees opportunities to improve and innovate and implements change to support the business.
- Work with the Environmental, Social and Governance Manager to make improvements where required
- Collaborate with the heads of other departments to ensure everyone understands their Health & Safety obligations and remains on the same page
- Implementation and maintenance of procedures and systems to meet the requirements of ISO1400
- Develop and implement the system in preparation for ISO 45001 certification
- Contribute to the continuous business improvement process and to the meeting of business objectives
- Be an ambassador for the company at all times internally and externally.
- BA in Safety Management or similar field is essential
- Previous experience working in a Health & Safety managerial position is essential
- Previous manufacturing Health & Safety experience essential
- Strong health and safety regulatory and legal framework knowledge
- Ability to foresee the possibility of risk occurring and reacting accordingly
- Excellent leadership skills for employees to follow safety procedures and serve as a good role model
- Ability to effective and efficiently handle pressure and keep to work schedules
- Demonstrable influencing and persuasion skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
- Possess a high level of interpersonal skills
- Strong written and reporting skills
- Excellent observation and attention to detail essential with the initiative to react in a timely manner to potential issues
- Excellent at problem solving
- Reliable and conscientious with excellent time management skills
- Can demonstrate methodical working ethic.
