    About the job

    Job summary

    • Are you good at analysing large amounts of information in order to make well-reasoned decisions?
    • Do you want to have a role in some of the Commission's highest profile statutory inquiries?
    • Do you want to play a part in stopping misconduct and mismanagement in charities?

You will further the Commission's role in identifying and investigating misconduct and mismanagement in the administration of charities, promoting compliance by charity trustees and promoting public trust and confidence in charities.

As an Investigator you will be responsible for contributing to the work of the Investigations Team by conducting statutory inquiries. On the highest risk and profile cases you will be working alongside, or under the supervision of a Senior Investigator. All inquiries are focused on regulatory matters where the risk of financial harm or harm to vulnerable beneficiaries is highest.

You will ensure the regulatory concerns are pursued efficiently, effectively and expediently, in accordance with the Commission's operational guidance and procedures, using the Commission's legal powers to protect charities and their assets from risk of, or ongoing, abuse.

Although predominately a case working role, the post holder will also be expected to contribute, on an ad hoc basis, to the development of investigative and wider Commission policy and to assist senior managers in achieving the Directorate's core aims.

    Job description

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the effective and timely delivery of assessment, inquiry and follow up casework ensuring that targets are met, and the Commission's risk framework is applied correctly. This will involve gathering, analysing and deciding when to share evidence/information/intelligence (including from open source material, on-site reviews of books and records, and interviews), then exercising some of the Commission's most significant legal powers effectively and in accordance with the legal framework (taking advice and guidance as appropriate from the Commission's Legal, Intelligence and Accountancy teams and external agencies).
    • You will be expected to model the highest standards of drafting and maintenance of case records.
    • When necessary, you will give evidence in court and/or at the Charity Tribunal.
    • Assist in the development of operational working relationships with other government departments, regulators and agencies.
    • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all Commission staff, to apply a consistent approach to cases and compliance work at an operational and corporate level.
    • Participate in project, case support work and undertake reasonable duties as required.
