This post is for a research assistant to support evaluation and research activity in Sussex Mindfulness Centre.

Sussex Mindfulness Centre is a leading centre for mindfulness training, research and practice and we are involved in a number of exciting evaluation and research projects seeking to contribute to the evidence base for mindfulness-based approaches.

The role will involve supporting with data collection, data entry, data analysis and contributing to drafting evaluation and research reports and papers for publication.

There will be opportunity to co-author papers for publication, work with and learn from mindfulness teachers and researchers, attend mindfulness events and to gain personal experience of mindfulness courses.

Supervision will be provided by Clara Strauss and Robert Marx, Consultant Clinical Psychologists leading Sussex Mindfulness Centre.

  • 1. Communication & Relationship Skills
Provide and receive sensitive information, where persuasive, motivational, training, empathic and reassurance skills are required.


  • Knowledge, Training & Experience


Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, the majority of which are non-routine, which require intermediate level theoretical knowledge.


  • Analytical & Judgemental Skills
Judgements involving a range of facts or situations which require analysis.


  • Planning & Organisational Skills
Planning and organisation of straightforward tasks, activities or programmes, some of which may be ongoing. Organise meetings associated with research and evaluation projects


  • Responsibility for Information Resources


Responsible for taking and transcribing formal minutes; regular requirement to use computer software to develop or create reports and documents.


  • Responsibility for Research & Development
Regularly undertakes R&D activity as a requirement of the job.

  • Communication & Relationship Skills
Provide and receive sensitive information, where persuasive, motivational, training, empathic and reassurance skills are required.

  • Assist in the recruitment of participants to evaluation, audit and research projects.
Assist in the facilitation of focus groups.
Offer support to participants during their involvement in projects.
Support the R&D Department and Sussex Mindfulness Centre in promoting relevant research activity and strategy across the Trust.


  • Knowledge, Training & Experience


Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, the majority of which are non-routine, which require intermediate level theoretical knowledge.


  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, including computer software, especially databases and data analysis software.
Typing skills specifically experience of transcribing large amount of interview/group audio data.

  • Knowledge of research ethics and obtaining informed consent.
  • Analytical & Judgemental Skills
  • Judgements involving a range of facts or situations which require analysis.
  • Assist in the analysis of quantitative data using SPSS.
Assist in the analysis of transcripts using qualitative methodologies.


  • Planning & Organisational Skills
Planning and organisation of straightforward tasks, activities or programmes, some of which may be ongoing.
Organise meetings associated with research and evaluation projects

  • Arrange briefings for teams as appropriate, and undertake presentations if required.
Organise groups associated with research study.
Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing.

  • Organise interviews and other data collection opportunities associated with the research study.
