- To assess womens needs, plan, implement and evaluate care on an individual basis.

- To liaise with other professional groups and provide advice as necessary and assist in the provision of a multi-disciplinary approach to care, co-ordinating all aspects of care in the best interests of the mothers and their babies.
- Participate in the on call rota for the maternity unit to support at times of heightened activity and escalation.
- Able to demonstrate wide knowledge of health policy and application to practice
- Good knowledge base regarding clinical information systems and the appropriate application of IT to clinical practice
- Knowledge of current local and national midwifery agenda and priorities
- Able to demonstrate evidence of team working
- Ability to work well under pressure and demonstrate resilience
- Recognise and value the contribution of others within the multidisciplinary team.
- Competent in the use of IT and computer skills, word processing and report writing
- Extended midwifey skills e.g. cannulation, suturing
- Evidence of skills in decision making, diplomacy and negotiation and conflict resolution
- Ability to prioritise workload and multi-task
- Evidence of excellent record keeping
- Health related degree
- Registered midwife UK with active UK PIN
- Teaching qualification or experience mentoring students
- Emergency course e.g. ALSO/MOET/NLS
- Experience at Band 5/6
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Evidence of learning and development in line with NMC Revalidation requirements
- Research and audit experience

The post holder will actively participate in the education, training and dissemination of professional and clinical knowledge to colleagues, student midwives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team acting as an effective role model.
