Job Purpose

To develop, deliver and embed peer learning and peer-enabled activity within Student Learning Development across the Colleges through the provision of teaching, training, guidance and support to staff and students.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To design and lead in the implementation of centralised Peer Assisted Study Schemes (PASS) and peer learning opportunities embedded within SLD
  • To work alongside colleagues in SLD in the expansion of peer learning opportunities across the Schools and Colleges
  • To design, deliver and evaluate small and/or large group seminars, and one-to-one appointments, to support undergraduate and taught postgraduate students to improve their peer enabled activity and academic literacies
  • To identify key resources to assist students to develop their skills in peer learning activity and academic literacies more broadly
  • To develop and disseminate information and details on peer learning opportunities
  • To assist in the organisation and delivery of the relevant College-level peer enabled activity (in conjunction with the relevant SLD/College staff)
  • To design and deliver peer learning and academic literacies workshops where appropriate
  • To manage and mentor the Peer Learning Interns (Grade 4) in their peer-enabled activity work with undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

Knowledge/Qualifications

EssentialA3 An up to date understanding of the role of peer enabled activity and peer learning in a Higher Education context
A4 Familiarity with Virtual Leaning Environments


Desirable
B1 A postgraduate teaching qualification and/or experience of working in Higher Education
B2 Understanding of the role of technology in supporting student learning


Skills

C1 Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
C2 Ability to take initiative and work independently
C3 Ability to prioritise own work and meet strict deadlines
C4 Ability to work as part of a team
C5 Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
C6 Ability to adapt teaching approach to the needs of the class
C7 Ability to deal professionally, sensitively, and tactfully with students in one to one and group settings
C8 Ability to work in a sensitive, ethical, and legal manner with students in accordance with all relevant legislation
C9 Ability to produce creative learning materials to support the development of students' peer learning skills and academic literacies

Essential
E1 Experience of delivering workshops, seminars, conducting one-to-one and small group discussions
E2 Experience of working with colleagues the develop and implement projects
E3 Experience of project and personnel management in small teams

F1 Experience of teaching and/or supporting learners


Terms & Conditions
Salary is Grade 6, £31,502 - £35,308 per annum.

This post is being offered on a full time (35 hours) and fixed-term basis for 3 years to July 2026.

The University would consider a secondment opportunity for this post.
