    :

    The Doctoral Training Hub (DT Hub) manages multiple Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) and other funded cohort postgraduate programmes across the College of Science and Engineering.

    The DT Hub provides an innovative student and academic focused service providing end-to-end management and administration. We offer a flexible hybrid working model.

    The Doctoral Training Hub Industry Engagement Manager will support two Centres for Doctoral Training:


    • The EPSRC CDT in Diversity led, mission-driven research which is a University of Glasgow centre.
    • The EPSRC CDT in Algebra, Geometry, and Quantum Fields which is run jointly between the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, and Heriot-Watt University. The post holder will be expected to intermittently travel between the institutions. The Doctoral Training Hub Industry Engagement Manager will have responsibility for the delivery of the industry and business development strategy for CDTs including delivering on pre-committed funding from external stakeholders and attracting new business for specific research themes or sectors. You will identify and deliver on research and knowledge exchange opportunities between the researchers within the CDT, Industry, Public Sector and other external parties as appropriate. The successful applicant will work in parallel with DT Hub coordinators within the Doctoral Training Hub and will be required to provide relief cover to other CDTs supported by the Doctoral Training Hub as and when appropriate.

    Reports to:
    CoSE Doctoral Training Hub Manager, with guidance on specific CDT objectives from the CDT Directors.

    Main duties and Responsibilities: 1. Effective delivery of the Industry Engagement strategy contributing to its development as appropriate based on funder and industry sector intelligence in support of strategic focus areas. 2. Responsible for the implementation of strategic plans targeting stakeholders for engagement and conversion to action. 3. Developing new commercial partnerships for strategic focus areas, as well as identifying new areas and trends in related research area to deliver a pipeline of funded work including strategically relevant collaborations with SME's, academia, and industry. To manage this effectively you would be expected to work with the wider team to ensure projects are appropriately planned, resourced and costed. 4. Working in partnership with key researchers, take ownership of the identification, nurturing and development of opportunities with external stakeholders, from initial identification through conversion to action. 5. Providing support for assigned high-quality bids for research and innovation funding, including writing and/or co-writing complex proposals for industry partners and other relevant funders, as required. 6. Developing and coordinating contract and commercial negotiations, ensuring responsiveness from all relevant internal and external parties, and ensuring deals are brought to closure. 7. Facilitating meetings with external organisations to communicate progress of research and business developments. 8. Effectively engaging with teams to manage and develop ongoing relationships with those companies that have entered into collaborative agreements with CDTs. 9. Keeping up-to-date on funding, research and education sector news and trends and working closely with stakeholder community (Academics, industry, entrepreneurs, funders, Scottish and UK Government departments, etc.) to provide intelligence on opportunities and support scenario planning. Using information to identify opportunities for new commercial partners. 10. Providing regular reports to CDT management teams to present progress against strategy and to assist in management decision-making. 11. Playing a leading role in improving and developing collaboration between academics and new or existing CDT business clients and develop business networks. 12. Building links with local and national industry, learned societies, and third sector entities, and therefore leverage further external investment (cash contributions, placements, mentorship, training, etc). 13. Other duties as directed by the DT Hub Manager (line manager) and requested by CDT Directors.

    Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge / Qualifications Essential: A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of roles

    Experience Essential:
    E1 Experience of developing strong strategic relationships with external business partners and converting these into value added deliverables (product, service, other)

    E2 Experience of informing and implementing strategic industry / external engagement / business development plans with clear goals and objectivesE3 Experience of developing relationships with external business partners through to workable solutionsE4 Proven track record of influencing and negotiating at senior levels in the public and/or private sector towards the successful delivery of organisational objectivesE5 Track record of developing and delivering innovative solutions to business engagement in collaborative projectsE6 Significant experience of working in a complex technical or innovative environment
    Desirable: F1 Experience of coordinating teams containing academics and industrialistsF2 Experience of management of complex multi partner dealsF3 Experience of successfully applying for grant funding from UKRI Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours per week), and has funding for up to 5 years in the first instance.
