Your new role

We are looking for an SEND Tribunal & Resolution Officer to join the
SEND Service on a full-time and fixed term basis (
until 30/08/2024).

This role is within an established and passionate team and the contract is being offered on a hybrid basis which is a combination of working from home and attending the office, with some requirement to attend meetings in person at local venues.

As a SEND Tribunal & Resolutions Officer, you will lead and manage all aspects of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST) appeals process within the required timescales.

You will manage the appeals in a way that contributes to improved outcomes for children and young people with SEND and work with families and partners to seek alternative solutions to appeal or negotiate settlements to appeals.

You will also work collaboratively with parents, carers, settings, partners and young people to minimise SEND Tribunal activity.

The role also requires you to work with families to respond to and resolve complaints as well as undertaking mediation where appropriate.

Although this post is a hybrid working pattern, largely it can be fulfilled remotely.
What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, a working knowledge of
SENDIST Appeal and Tribunal processes is essential.

It is essential that you have extensive knowledge and experience of legislative and statutory requirements relating to children and adults with SEND and the Special Educational Needs
Code of Practice: 0 - 25 and
Ofsted and
CQC requirements.

Previous experience of working in similar post in a different local authority or legal / tribunal background would be highly advantageous.

It is vital that you have detailed knowledge and understanding of the needs of children with SEND.

It is also essential that you have experience of partnership working with a wide range of stakeholders such as schools, health/social care, parents, carers and children with SEND and co-producing with these groups.

What you'll get in return

If you join the Council, you will enjoy a range of benefits including flexible working (with a blended approach to office and home working), salary sacrifice schemes,
25 days holiday in a full-time contract (excluding bank holidays) and excellent training and development opportunities.

A full list of benefits provided by Southend-on-Sea City Council can be found on the Jobs at the council web page under the "Why Work for us Tab".
