    Job summary

    We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic doctor to work in our dermatology department at Brighton General Hospital and The Royal Sussex County Hospital.

    Applicants should be interested in a career in dermatology. The role will be focussed on research and working on studies within the department including NIHR portfolio, non-commercial and commercial trials in both outpatient and the Clinical Investigation Research Unit (CIRU) settings. The post will also include inflammatory clinics, training in minor operations procedures and assessing lesions, to enable the candidate to gain a wide experience in dermatology. Previous dermatology experience is not essential but applicants should demonstrate an enthusiasm and commitment to the speciality.

    This post is open primarily to applicants who do not require a certificate of sponsorship to take up employment in the UK.     Main duties of the job

    Applicants should hold the MRCP or equivalent and be interested in a career in dermatology. The role will include delivery to dermatology research studies in the dermatology outpatient and Clinical Investigations Research Unit (CIRU), inflammatory and lesion clinics, and training in minor surgical procedures. The appointee will have a clinical supervisor to ensure appropriate training and development is achieved in this role. Previous dermatology experience is not essential but applicants should demonstrate an enthusiasm and commitment to the speciality.

    Job responsibilities

    This post is designed to develop and support dermatology research in the Trust with some clinical dermatological experience. There will also be a research project within this environment. This post would be ideal for a junior doctor interested in training in dermatology to gain clinical exposure, as well as gain experience in dermatology research, prior to applying for a training position.

    The research role will focus on CTIMP academic-led and Industry sponsored trials in the active NIHR dermatology trials portfolio delivered at CIRU (, and registry/observational studies carried out in the dermatology department at Brighton General Hospital. Dr Farrant, Dr Topham and Dr DeGiovanni lead in recruiting and supervising trial patients and have an active presence in CIRU with the excellent team of research nurses and research support staff. Our current portfolio is varied with trials in atopic eczema, alopecia areata, psoriasis, skin lesions and hidradenitis suppurativa. The clinical duties of the post will include an inflammatory clinic, training in minor surgical procedures and lesion assessment.

    The post holder is expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education. On Call Commitment: No out of hours commitments. Rota during normal working hours.

    Essential

  • Basic medical degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent

  • Attendance in Dermatology clinics, ward rounds etc
  • Previous post in dermatology
  • Clinical Skills
