    Permanent
    Description

    Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an established, dynamic and friendly perinatal community mental health service. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who would be committed to working within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support the recovery of the families who are being cared for in this context.

You must have your own personal lived experience of recovery from perinatal mental health difficulties and including having experienced care within a Perinatal Mental Health Service or an Adult Mental Health Service for perinatal mental health, and have some experience of working in a related health or social care field. We are looking for people who are willing to positively share their personal experiences with others in order to support clients in their journey of recovery. You will be responsible for working with individuals to identify personal recovery goals as identified in care plans / health and wellbeing plans, assisting with groups as well as case specific 1:1 work and supporting service users to navigate through their care pathway and towards their own aspirations of a meaningful recovery.

    Main duties of the job

The role of Perinatal Peer Support Worker (Perinatal PSW) has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of recovery from perinatal mental health challenges. In the context of

Perinatal Mental Health Services, post holders will have experienced recovery from perinatal mental health challenges and accessed support through a perinatal mental health service in relation to this. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Perinatal Peer Support Workers inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

Using recovery principles and socially inclusive practice, the post-holder will support service users in their personal recovery journeys through the Perinatal Mental Health Service. This means providing peer support for mums who experience similar mental health and social needs during the perinatal period. They will foster a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, to promote choice, self-determination, opportunities and hope. They will raise awareness about local resources and opportunities that may assist people in maintaining their recovery. They will encourage and support service users to use community and children's resources that are available to them, and support the Perinatal Service with developing links with these resources. They will act as an advocate for recovery within the team and an ambassador for recovery for the Trust and with partner agencies.
