Middlesex University, London, is recruiting an Animation Contextual Studies lecturer to join the BA Animation Programme.


We are looking for a lecturer to work within the Animation department as an active member of a teaching team delivering excellence in Animation Contextual Studies appropriate to the needs of the student body.


Animation is well-established at Middlesex University, with facilities that are second to none and the role holder will be joining an established team of academics and technicians delivering an Animation degree to a very diverse student cohort in the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries at a London university.


The role will typically be held by an experienced/developing researcher and academic, with teaching experience at HE level, making a significant contribution to the development of a relevant and contemporary curriculum for Animation Contextual Studies.

We are looking for an individual with a comprehensive understanding of animation history, as well as its sociopolitical context.

The role holder will deliver classes covering a range of topics including analogue, digital, mixed-media and experimental animation; stop-motion; documentary; video games, and a diverse array of international cinemas.


You will be encouraging students to develop their own progressive and potentially market-leading creative practice underpinned by a strong awareness of critical theory and contemporary creative issues.

You will also teach skills for essay-writing and research, and supervise final-year students with their dissertations.

You will also contribute to the strategic direction, leadership, and management of the Animation Programme and assist in developing professional practice and knowledge transfer to the benefit of students, the Faculty, the University and the wider community.


To succeed in this role, you will need: appropriate academic qualifications at postgraduate level (normally a doctorate or equivalent); a commitment to and awareness of equality, diversity and inclusivity within your professional practice; to be committed to ensuring a high quality of student experience; the ability to understand the range of students' experiences; a broad knowledge and experience of Animation research and practice from both a historic and contemporary context; and to be a committed leader and collaborator, working effectively within the course team.
