    SpringhillHospice is a registered charity providing specialist palliative and end of lifecare to adults in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale both on the inpatient unitand in the community.

    Our hospice, rated Outstanding by CQC, is seeking aninspirational leader to join the Executive Management Team.

    This is anopportunity to join an exceptional and dedicated team and build on theexcellent legacy left by our retiring Medical Director.

    The MD willoversee and develop the Medical Team and work closely with the Director ofClinical Services with joint overall accountability for service delivery,development and reporting, as well as providing direct patient care.

    To lead,develop and coordinate all Medical services across the organisation to ensurewe provide outstanding end of life care.
    This role is based at Springhill Hospice, Rochdale.
    SpringhillHospice providesthe following palliative care services to the local adultpopulation who are suffering from the effects of life-limiting and terminalillnesses:
    A 16-bed Inpatientunit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.

    Hospice atHome Service - supports people whowant to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptommanagement they need to be able to do so.

    A DayTherapies Centre for up to 16 patients, 4-days-a-week, offeringcomplementary therapies (e.g. reflexology, aromatherapy and massage);creative and beauty therapies, social activities and clinical support.
    CommunityService - provides specialistpalliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes
    A 24-hour PalliativeCare Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.

    An EducationUnit - an in-house training facility for hospice staff and local health andsocial care professionals, with the main focus of training being on theSpringhill Palliative Care Education Passport' (SPCEP) which ensures that corepalliative care skills are taught to all grades of staff.

    Providestrong inspirational leadership to the Hospice Medical team, ensuring thehighest standards of quality and compliance across the organisation.

    Asa member of the Executive Management Team, influence the strategic direction ofthe organisation and work with colleagues to ensure the five-year strategy isdelivered.

    Effectivelylead on the co-ordination and strategic development of all Medical servicesensuring they are fit for purpose.
    Ensureall Hospice services and practice is developed with a focus on quality and aperson-centred approach.
    Leadon digital transformation in all Medical areas.
    Representthe Hospice, concerning Medical issues, at strategic level meetings bothinternally and externally, establishing links with external agencies.
    Preparean annual plan, in relation to all Hospice Medical services, which will supportthe five-year strategy and Trustees Report.

    Attendnational, regional and local information sessions and conferences as agreedwith the Chief Executive, regarding hospice initiatives and Governmentguidance, relaying the information back through the Hospices sub-committee andmanagement structure.

    Maintaineffective and high-level communication with the Chief Executive and ExecutiveManagement Team concerning medical matters and organisational issues.

    Workalongside Hospice teams in the production of required reports, both internaland external, relating to quality, patient and family experience and compliancewith legislation.

    Provideadvice to the Chief Executive on all Medical matters, changes in practice, lawor regulation.
    Ensurethe Hospice can demonstrate compliance with all current legislation

    Ensurethe Hospice can demonstrate compliance with all relevant Health & Safetyrequirements with particular emphasis on documentation and production/review ofappropriate risk assessments.

    Supportthe Hospice management team in ensuring the hospice is compliant with alllegislative and governance frameworks relating to the use of computer systemsto include compliance with NHS Information Governance Framework.

    Chairthe Clinical Standards Sub-Committee developing a work programme of audit andan annual report, ensuring quality control across all clinical areas.

    Formulateand execute the Hospices audit plan, ensuring all relevant practices andactivity is subject to verification against documented policies and procedures,producing reports following the Hospice Governance process.

    Leadand develop the coordination and delivery of the Hospices mandatory trainingprogramme.
    Workclosely with the Clinical Director on clinical development, clinicalgovernance, risk, quality, and audit.
    Reportcomplaints, and investigate findings within Medical practice to the ChiefExecutive.
    Workwith relevant colleagues within appropriate sub-groups to review and developHospice policies and procedures.
    Toread, understand, and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures.
    Topositively promote, represent and support the Hospice, ensuring our values aremaintained at all times.
    Tobe aware of personal responsibilities as defined by the Health and Safety atWork Act.
    Tomaintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to the Hospice, itsbusiness, patients, staff and others.
    Ensureexcellent communication is maintained within and external to the Hospice.
    Management
    Providedirect line-management support to all Hospice Doctors and trainees.
    Supportthe Medical Team to ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet the needs ofpatients.

    Supportthe Director of Clinical Services to facilitate the professional development ofthe clinical team by encouraging successful and efficient multi-disciplinaryworking.

    Manageand monitor staff performance, absence and practice addressing any issues inaccordance with hospice HR policies, procedures and within codes ofprofessional practice.

    Supportthe Management team to train and develop staff in clinical and corporate auditrelevant to their role, focussing on a team approach and encouraging ownershipof compliance issues throughout the organisation.

    Undertakeinternal appraisals for all Hospice Doctors and support their professionaldevelopment.
    Participatein the current out-of-hours system or any on-call rota established.
    Tosupport the development, co-ordination and presentation of education, trainingand development opportunities for staff.
    Identify,through annual performance and appraisal, areas for staff development.
    Actas the link and representative of the Hospice for education providers andCommissioners.
    Attendall mandatory training.
    Attendany training or development required by the Hospice.
    SupportMedical trainees.

    Pleasenote the Medical Director is expected to undertake weekends as part of theMedical Team rota for which time off in lieu is given.

    Car owner with full driving licence.
    Flexible approach to work.
    Primary medical qualification.
    Licensed with the General Medical Council (GMC).
    Experience of working effectively within a specialist palliative unit / hospice and within a multidisciplinary team.
    Management experience within hospice environment.
    Experience of strategic planning.
    Experience of change management.
    Experience of working with commissioning teams.
    Comprehensive knowledge of the current healthcare sector.
    Ability to negotiate at a senior level.
    Ability to interpret data at a strategic level.
