The Role & Key Responsibilities

Sussex Police Force Research Bureau are an operational team supporting Policing and key partner agencies.

We are looking to recruit an experienced full time Supervisor with recent or current experience of managing teams that undertake Multi-functional processes providing information to support Policing and key stakeholders over a 24 hour period.

You will have leadership skills to manage, support and maximise potential through performance, attendance and conduct issues.


The role is responsible for providing expertise on the National systems that the team interrogate and information gathering, this includes the ability to Audit the activity that is undertaken, and reporting any concerns.

Your day-to day duties would include:
Act as a point of expert knowledge on the Force Research services and the use of Police National and Local Systems

Responsible for the auditing of National systems and reporting any concerns from the audits to the manager

Liaising with associated agencies, Business Partners, Custody centres and Sussex Police personnel, of all ranks / grades, giving support and advice as necessary

To maximise staff potential and manage staff performance, attendance and personnel related issues

Ensure compliance with legislation, Police and Home Office policies and procedures, GDPR, Data Protection Act.

Skills & Experience


To be successful in this role it is essential that you can demonstrate and evidence recent experience of managing a team at 1st line supervisory level.

Experience of researching and analysing large amounts of information from various systems and decision making on information identified and any risks that may be associated

Well developed people skills, together with strong written and verbal communication which must be concise, factual and of a high standard


A proven ability to problem solving with solutions that meet the stakeholders needs whilst remaining within GDPR Data Protection, legal requirements and Policy frameworks.

Proven organisational & Planning skills with the ability to work under pressure. the ability to be flexible and adaptable in your work whilst working independently in a busy environment

Managing areas of poor performance, attendance, and overall performance

identifying effective solutions to resolve issues through proactive focused support of the team's welfare to address any concerns at the earliest opportunity.

Assessing, prioritising, and allocating work, received in the team on a daily basis and identifying priorities.


The supervisor has discretionary authority to direct teams to priority activities and will provide clear and accurate written reports, therefor strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

This post works a shift pattern covering 18 hour span between earlies and 3 lates on a rolling 6 on 4 off pattern.

The pattern covers 365 days of the year including Bank Holidays
