    Barnsley Hospitals Orthopaedic Elective Ward now has a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse vacancy for a 12-month secondment or fixed term to cover maternity leave available.

    We are a 12 bedded ward delivering care to elective patients ranging from day cases to major joint replacement surgeries. Ultimately, we assist patients in their recovery alongside Medics and Therapists to achieve their optimal level of independence and safe discharge home. With significant delays in elective surgery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our service is recovering to combat the long waiting lists. We are looking to develop our service to achieve 24hr discharge in hip and knee replacements. So, we are seeking someone passionate and enthusiastic to join the nursing team to achieve optimal recovery and timely turnaround for patients in a dynamic environment. You will support and deputise for the Lead Nurse by managing and co-ordinating the day-to-day function of the ward, acting as ward representative in the absence of the Lead Nurse. You will be responsible for maintaining the provision of outstanding nursing care, effective staff management, staff and student education and development, and being a clinical resource for staff, patients and visitors. You will be responsible for maintaining the provision of outstanding nursing care, effective staff management, staff and student education and development, and being a clinical resource for staff, patients and visitors. As a senior member of the team, you will be required to have effective interpersonal communication, decision-making, and team working skills. It is essential that you have an in-depth knowledge of current healthcare issues, risk management, and clinical governance, as well as quality, audit and its implementation. You will be expected to prioritise and delegate your own and the teams workload to meet the demands of multiple theatre lists and in-patient care. There will be ample opportunity for you to develop your teaching and mentoring skills as you will lead on particular clinical areas, and support our students and newly qualified nurses with support from our clinical educator. Maintain high standards of care which reflect the Trust Values Act as team leader in participating and providing safe and effective care Assist with co-ordination of staff to ensure performance is maintained whilst delivering safe care Oversee patient care and flow within the ward Participate in the development of the ward and actively implement new Trust and ward projects.
