The SDA have exciting career opportunities for experienced Mechanical Engineers to join our In-Service Submarines (ISM) team at MoD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol.
By joining ISM, you will integrate with a team of highly skilled professionals and get up-closeand personal with complex submarine systems.
You will oversee Mechanical Engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst providing support to the Royal Navy and a significant contribution to project/programme success.
In the SDA you will have unparalleled opportunities to learn and develop as a professional engineer and will be actively supported in this respect.
Training is readily available, invested in and essential to stay abreast with new technologies and you willbe working in an environment that encourages this.
About the role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Manage the delivery of all engineering aspects in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects.
- Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service or system.
- Monitor and implement any governance and assurance policies and procedures to ensure the 'safe & professional' status of the area led.
- Lead on the development of requirements related to own area of specialism including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications.
- Likely to hold Safety Responsibilities (SR)
Person specification
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body.
- Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
