This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work in the Information and Security Team within the Legal and Governance Directorate.


As the Security Senior Adviser, you will understand security (Government Functional Standard 007: Security) and can work collaboratively within Natural England and across Defra Group to understand the emerging threats and develop mitigating solutions.

You will be an expert in your field - an experienced, inclusive leader, adept at managing security risk and implementing sustainable change.


You will support the Principal Advisor for Security and Information in the oversight and effective management of physical, personnel and information Security domains of Natural England.

This includes working with Internal teams and wider defra Group Colleagues to provide a safe and secure workplace for all our staff, contractors, visitors, and volunteers.


You will therefore be required to liaise effectively and develop excellent working relationships with a wide range of business and administrative individuals, partners and organizations.


Crucial to this role will be the development of an expert knowledge of all aspects of the Security and Information Team areas of responsibility as well as a proactive and pragmatic approach.

Key tasks//principal accountabilities:


  • Professional security management experience.
  • A working knowledge of and skill in the preparation of written reports, procedures, business cases and investigations, protest management, personal security, CCTV auditing and security risk management.
  • Strong management and leadership skills with high quality communication, influencing and negotiating abilities.
  • Meeting Security monitoring and assurance requirements such as the Departmental Health Check and using information from it to identify areas for improvement and to ensure compliance to the Government Security Standards.
- proficient knowledge of security best practice and industry technology and innovation.

  • Establish strong working relationships with the Defra Group Security Team and the wider Arms Length Bodies security community to ensure that Natural England's interests are understood.
  • Act as a security professional championing and sharing best practice throughout Natural England, embedding a government security culture within the department.
  • Manage the Natural England Security Incident Management process and support the collation of incident statistics for the Monthly Dashboard.
