College of Science and Engineering / School of Informatics

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: for 22 months

The Opportunity:

The main idea of the project is to find quantum algorithms and develop quantum software to address fundamental questions in cosmology and quantum field theory on curved spacetime, under the assumption that spacetime itself is discrete.

This post will focus on the quantum algorithms and quantum information theory side of the project, while our partners from Imperial College will focus on identifying and on the mathematical modelling of the, computational resource expensive, calculations that we are going to address.

The post will also deal with practical analysis of the implementation of the algorithms and the scalability of the approach.

Your skills and attributes for success:

Essential:

  • PhD (or be near completion) in Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics.
  • Proven expertise in the techniques needed to undertake the research in question.
  • Demonstrated quality of research performance.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the specific areas of variational quantum algorithms, quantum nonlocal games, quantum information theory.
