The Head of Creative Innovation will provide hands-on leadership for the Economist Impact creative innovation team composed of digital specialists, designers, technologists, film makers, and content creators.

This person will bring innovative thinking to develop and execute market leading creative and content approaches to translate complex ideas and insights into meaningful story-lines that connect with influential global audiences.


The head of creative innovation is a senior member of the Economist Impact leadership team, reporting directly to the managing director Economist Impact, and is a key driver of the partnership growth strategy.


Accountabilities:

How you will contribute:


  • Lead the day to day Economist Impact creative innovation work, overseeing all aspects of content and digital production from initial concept through to execution and rapidly prototyping ideas into implementation.
  • Oversee the creative innovation team and structure for maximum collaboration and production efficiency with a mix of full time/freelancers/vendors across: content development, creative/design, digital production and products, technology, platforms/product development to ensure we lead with bestinclass work, increasing profitability while managing hypergrowth.
  • Develop and evangelise the storytelling voice for Economist Impact and create Impact content franchises that align with key areas of leadership including, health, sustainability and new globalisation as well as for Impact Initiatives, i.e. The Sustainability Project.
  • Develop new content formats and expand Economist Impact thought leadership position across all digital platforms and storytelling capabilities include data visualisation, immersive digital experiences, audio, video and social.
  • Set and manage creative innovation workflow to shepherd complex and highly innovative multimedia programs (hundreds yearly) from concept through production to distribution and promotion. Ensure production cost estimates are sound and production stays within budget.
  • Establish and enforce process to create distance and separation between client branded content and independent Economist Impact content while realising efficiencies in production through shared services or vendor relationships.
  • Leverage audience insights and performance data to sharpen storytelling approach and product development to ensure work is constantly evolving and improving.
  • Develop standards of excellence for Economist Impact content and digital production that reflect the values of The Economist Group, and implement quality control measures to ensure they are upheld, while rigorously enforcing editorial and brand guidelines.
  • Partner across Economist Impact policy and partnership strategy teams to extract compelling storylines that will extend the reach and engagement with highly influential audiences and overdeliver for clients.

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • 7+ years experience managing & mentoring a high performance content and digital studio team.
  • Hands on experience creating dynamic multiplatform thought leader content with a record of innovating new approaches to storytelling narratives and formats.
  • Keen understanding of managing production including budgets/expenses across all storytelling formats and digital platforms.
  • Ability to attract, retain, develop talent and motivate the team. Experience managing large freelance teams and exhibiting leadership skills to nurture talent.
  • Confident and persuasive, strong communicator able to express a content vision in a compelling presentation.
  • Excellent judgement and high integrity.
