  • We're looking for a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer who will ultimately help us reduce flood risk to communities across East Sussex.

Data and evidence is key to the work we do and the analysis of GIS, models and data sets are an important part of the team's activities.

The person successful in this role will be the lead for data, mapping and modelling within the Partnerships & Strategic Overview Team for East Sussex, which will involve:

- developing and maintaining our mapping and modelling programme
- writing mapping and modelling project scope documents
- working closely with our Evidence & Risk team to review model specifications
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • The Partnerships & Strategic Overview team work to manage the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. The team use data and information to work with partners to plan, fund and deliver schemes which better protect communities. We influence the location and design of new development and ensure flood risk is not increased by works in or near watercourses.
Experience/skills required- You will be able to demonstrate most of the following:

  • An understanding of the importance of evidence in informing flood risk decisions
  • Knowledge and experience in hydraulic modelling
  • Experience in data processing and GIS software packages
  • Good data management and understanding of modelling standards
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to build relationships
  • The ability to influence and persuade effectively
  • The ability to achieve results, directly and through others
  • Experience in prioritising and managing your workload effectively
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills
