An opportunity has arisen for a Criminal Justice Assistant to join us within the Social Work unit at HMP Castle Huntly on a fixed term contract until April 2024.


The successful applicant will support the provision of a Social Work service to men within prison who will be transitioning into the community by way of the home leave scheme and the Parole process, in accordance with National Outcomes and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice System and relevant Scottish Executive Circulars and legislation.


You will have the ability to work alongside team members and agencies who are involved with these individuals, to help support risk assessment and case management procedures.

The duties within this role will involve attendance at integrated case management meetings (ICMs), induction sessions for men who have recently been allocated to the social work team, and participation in the Social Work 'duty' service.


Whilst this is not a qualified social work post there will be an element of training embedded within this post, within a specialized Justice environment dealing with complex cases in a secondary setting, that may be of some long-term benefit to those who are hoping to embark on a career in the field of justice Social Work.


Requirements:


You will:

  • Have a strong interest in working with male offenders.
  • Be able to identify males' needs, and contribute to risk and needs assessments and case management plans.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have the ability to work well independently and by using your own initiative.
  • Work together as part of a team, and support the social workers.
  • Liaise and work together with multiagency partners.
  • Be a good timekeeper and a reliable team member.
  • Be highly motivated to achieve positive outcomes for male offenders.
  • Have the ability to produce and maintain clear, concise and accurate records.
  • Have the ability to use a computer and be familiar with Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Have awareness of criminogenic factors, such as substance misuse.
  • Have an awareness of both adult and child protection.
  • Having SVQ Level 3 or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
