  • Job description
  • The Environment Agency is the largest reservoir undertaker in the country. In Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area (LNA) and East Anglia Area (EAN) there are currently 37 reservoirs that fall under the Reservoirs Act 1975.
Reservoir Act Coordinators (RACs) manage compliance with the Act. RACs advise asset owners about the Reservoirs Act and our processes for managing reservoirs.

Through our Area's Asset Teams, they ensure that we have the appropriate management practices in place so that reservoirs can function as they are intended, in a safe way and with plans in place if there is an incident.

The way we manage reservoirs in the UK is being reformed.

The RAC will help LNA and EAN to implement these changes so that we are compliant with current and future provisions under the Reservoirs Act.

Key responsibilities will include:
- managing the contract for Supervising Engineers, that carry out our statutory inspections and provide technical engineering advice on the management of our reservoirs.
- co-ordination of our quarterly reservoir reporting.
- providing advice for our area colleagues on reservoir management.
- liaising with our national reservoirs act co-ordinator group on behalf of LNA and EAN so to ensure areas are up to date with internal policy and processes on reservoirs.

  • Monitor Panel Engineer reports to identify issues that could impact on compliance.
  • Support and train staff on all levels of reservoir management
  • Work toward becoming a Warranted Officer for Reservoir Enforcement
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • The team
  • The RAC will report to the Welland and Nene Operations Manager in LNA. They will work alongside asset management colleagues in LNA and EAN.

The post holder will regularly communicate with:

  • Asset Teams in LNA and EAN on day-to-day reservoir issues.
  • The National Reservoirs Safety team and RAC group on complex reservoir matters.
- our external Supervising Engineers on technical reservoir matters and statutory inspections.

  • Experience/skills required
  • Ideally applicants will have qualifications or experience in:
  • Asset Management
  • Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • The Reservoirs Act
This role is predominantly managing our high-risk reservoir assets. Experience in asset management is essential. Ideally, with accreditation to the Institute of Asset Management.

Qualifications and/or an understanding of Civil or Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous.
With suitable engineering qualifications there may be the opportunity to train as a Reservoir Supervising Engineer.

  • Contact and additional information
  • This role can be based at any locations in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire or East Anglia area. Travel to sites/offices will be required infrequently.
