We are seeking an experienced and capable Head of Infrastructure Works Delivery to lead our Service Area, comprising four teams: Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), Civils and Rail (C&R), Communications, Signalling and Electrical (C,S&E), and Programme Support.

Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Director, this role holds responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of capital-funded planned construction and engineering railway infrastructure asset renewals, with occasional support for reactive circumstances.

As a senior leader, you will provide expertise, guidance, and ensure high-quality work delivered on time and within budget, always prioritizing safety.

Additionally, you will lead by example, demonstrating values that prioritize dignity, respect, inclusion, and diversity within our workforce.

This newly created role reports to the Infrastructure Director.

This role is responsible for leading four teams, those being:
Overhead Line Equipment; Civils and Rail; Communications, Signalling and Electrical; and Programme Support.

The Service Area is primarily focussed on the safe and successful delivery of capital funded planned construction and engineering railway infrastructure asset renewals but can also at times be called upon to assist in reactive circumstances.

This senior leadership role provides expertise and guidance for the Service Area and ensures that high quality work is delivered on time and to budget, but with safety always being our ultimate priority.


It is essential the post holder has the required technical and safety knowledge and experience but in addition, the successful person must be able to demonstrate values and behaviours that prioritise dignity and respect alongside promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within our workforce.

We are looking for an experienced leader who will methodically and professionally guide their teams to work to their full potential.

Specific Knowledge & Experience:


  • Experience of leading significant project delivery and large site installation teams through the planning and construction phase of the project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, preferably railway, engineering, and construction oriented.
  • Knowledge of establishing and maintaining budgets and financial records.
  • Knowledge and experience of leading and/or managing teams through/during Organizational Change.
  • Knowledge and experience of promoting Workplace Inclusion & Diversity.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Infrastructure Works Delivery Service Area.
  • Champion diversity and inclusion, creating a climate of equality, inclusion, and respect within the organization.
  • Ensure the functionality of the Infrastructure Directorate is prioritized in terms of Safety, Legislative Compliance, Service Reliability, Station Presentation, and Sustainability.
  • Lead on all matters that ensure Nexus' safety and legislative compliance with regards to planning and construction activities.
  • Ensure resources are robust to deliver the Capital Programme and assist with reactive demands when necessary.
  • Ensure project works are delivered on time, within budget, and to the agreed quality standards.
  • Provide professional project planning and construction phase delivery advice to the wider organization.
  • Lead project procurement activities in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Monitor Service Area spend against forecast and provide regular financial reports.
  • Undertake investigations and ensure lessons are learned and shared effectively across the organization.
  • Set annual Infrastructure Key Performance Indicators and Service Plans.
  • Foster strong collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Lead all employee relations and Trade Union aspects of the Service Area.
  • Undertake Head of Service Standby and Call Out responsibility for Nexus.
