The role after some training can be completed in a hybrid set up and allows both employee and employer to benefit from this working model.

Financial Support Officer
Reports to Regional Finance Manager
A summary of the core purpose and overarching responsibility of the role.

  • Undertake home visits, office interviews, surgeries and provide telephone advice as
- required. Work closely with other local service providers and partner organisations to provide
- the best possible outcomes for a broad range of financial and benefit issues facing
- customers.

  • Work with the Neighbourhoods and Financial Inclusion Teams to provide pre[1]tenancy advice and support tenants where the need is identified
  • Ensuring customer's income is maximised alongside income for the organisation in
- order to sustain tenancies.

  • Provide expert advice and training across the business on Welfare Reform. Ensuring
- information is shared with colleagues regarding updates in benefit changes and
- legislation. Ensure high levels of personal knowledge are maintained and kept up to
- date in this regard.

  • Specifically champion the organisation's response to welfare reform and benefit
- changes ensuring the impact of these is effectively mitigated.

  • Support customers who are unemployed along the pathway into employment, by
- working closely with the Regeneration and Employment Officer.

  • Deal positively and effectively with all internal referrals, providing a high standard
- of feedback to other staff members.

  • Actively promote the financial support service and support the Financial Inclusion
  • Team's communication strategy by sharing good news stories and achievements,
- attending team meetings and promoting the benefits of engagement to customers
- and other members of staff.

  • Work as part of the Financial Inclusion Team to ensure rent arrears, sundry debts,
- court action and evictions are minimised, prioritising the need to maximise income
- for the organisation.

  • To ensure that tenants requiring the service are dealt with effectively and efficiently
- by delivering a high standard of service specific to the individual need.

  • Maximise tenant engagement through effective and proactive communication.
  • Provision of comprehensive welfare benefits advice for customers, including help
- claiming benefits, advice and assistance with completing and submitting mandatory

  • Provide advice around budgeting, income maximisation, priority debt issues and
- utility debts and rent arrears.

  • Manage a varied workload with effective prioritisation of vulnerable tenants and
- those whose tenancies are at risk.

  • Ensure affordable arrears repayment arrangements are agreed by making
- recommendations to the relevant Financial Inclusion Officer following assessment of
- the customer's financial position.

  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records within the housing management system
- to comply with internal and external audit requirements and ensuring colleagues are
- updated on any relevant issues.

  • Prepare reports and statistics on request.
  • Responsibility for a range of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Liaise effectively and develop strong working relationships with a variety of
- statutory, voluntary and private organisations; including local authorities, Housing

  • Benefit Departments, Department of Work and Pensions, Pensions Service, Courts,
  • Welfare Rights Services, Charities and notforprofit Debt Management Services.
