Organisation DATA AND STATISTICS DIVISION

Job Posting 13-Mar-2024, 11:16:15 AM

The Bank of England is the UK's central bank. Our mission is to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people.
The Bank of England is a diverse organisation.

Each of its 4,000 plus people are committed to public service and dedicated to promoting the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability.

Research and Statistics Divisions - Advanced Analytics, the Centre for Central Banking Studies, the Research Hub and the Data and Division - lie at the heart of the Bank of England, acting as a centre of excellence for analytics, research and statistics across the institution as a whole.

Data and Statistics Division (DSD) is the Bank's centre of expertise for compilation, dissemination and publication of regulatory and statistical data, promoting innovation and quality to support analysis, policy and decision making by the Bank's Committees, UK government departments and international organisations.
Data is collected from banks and buildings societies, credit unions, insurance companies and regulated mortgage lenders and administrators. This takes place via 35 statistical collections and over 200 regulatory collections.

We cleanse a sizeable proportion of these datasets and publish a large number of Statistical data via our interactive database.

We support MPC, FPC and PRA Board and our data are used in the Inflation Report, Financial Stability Report, Credit Conditions Review, Stress Test Results, FPC Core Indicators and Quarterly Bulletin.

We also quality assure SONIA submissions, to promote confidence in this published benchmark rate for sterling markets.

SONIA production is a critical function for the Bank; it is used to value around £30 trillion of assets each year, and is also referenced in over £90 trillion of new transactions each year.

Department Overview
The advertised role sits in the division's Regulatory Data Group (RDG).

RDG's primary focus is to contribute to the Bank of England core purposes and external commitments by collecting and quality assuring regulatory data.

Currently, there are three main operational teams within RDG:
Banking, Insurance and Household & Rates.

This role is in the Insurance & Credit Unions team that works alongside the other RDG operational teams to support the delivery of and continued maintenance of the team's regulatory data change activities and management of the plausibility checking processes of firm-level data, which includes machine learning and associated quality assurance processes.

The team works closely with the Insurance Analytics Department within the PRA Insurance Division, as well as with insurance and credit union supervisors and the actuarial teams.

Job description

  • As a Team Administrator for the Insurance and Credit Union team within the Regulatory Data Group (RDG) you will facilitate the collection of Insurance and Credit Union data by providing administrative support to the team. Responsibilities will include; responding to and directing external queries, planning project timelines, creating and updating workstreams, curating basic information on firms, organising meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and overseeing team absences, among other administrative and ad hoc tasks.

You will report to the manager of the Regulatory Data Group Insurance & Credit Unions team, and will work in collaboration with data scientists and analysts.

Despite the analytical nature of our team, we are looking for an individual that wants to pursue a role in administration; this role is open to those with limited experience working directly with data.

Organisation, the ability to quickly learn technical concepts and language, and strong interpersonal skills are crucial characteristics for a successful applicant.

Any experience working with agile project management tools, such as Jira, would be advantageous.

  • RDG Insurance is currently helping to deliver sections of the wideranging Solvency II Reform project, particularly in relation to reporting and public disclosure. Given the team's direct involvement with Solvency II data, the changes will impact our processes. The creation of the Team Administrator as a new role within our team means there will be scope to make transformative change to our practices and processes.

As part of the SONIA remit, the jobholder will work flexible hours, when participating in shifts from 6am-9am on a rota basis.

The high profile nature of this work will require the jobholder to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, to quality assure SONIA-eligible activity ahead of 9am publication.

Participating in SONIA also provides the opportunity to work with different areas of the Bank, contributing directly to the Bank's mission of
