  • Job description

  • Do you want to help London and the Thames Estuary adapt to climate change? At the Environment Agency, we do more than build flood risk management schemes. We strive to ensure that everything we do leaves a legacy to be proud of.
In this role, you will be at the core of the team implementing the Thames Estuary 2100 Plan.

You'll be working with the latest climate science and innovative approaches to flood risk management to help deliver solutions at the forefront of an adaptive pathways plan for the largest flood risk strategy in the country.

We are looking for at least 2 Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) Officers to assist the team in the ongoing delivery of the Thames Estuary 2100 Plan.

The roles can be adapted to suit a range of skill sets.
The team is particularly keen to strengthen the following areas:

  • Data and records management
  • Mapping and modelling
  • Engagement
  • Governance
As a result, experience in one (or more) of these areas is desirable, but not essential.

Based in our London team, you will work on key areas of the programme, including project and programme management, supporting our Governance boards, helping to delivery our engagement strategy and coordinating reporting and monitoring of the Thames Estuary 2100 Plan.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.

We are also recruiting a similar role on permanent term basis. Please check advert 26863 Thames Estuary 2100 Officer

  • The team
  • As part of the Flood and Coastal Risk Management department in London Area, the Thames Estuary 2100 team works with other London Area teams, three operational area teams and the TEAM2100 programme, an integrated team of Environment Agency and delivery partner colleagues.

We are an exciting programme at the forefront of adaptive planning for climate change, and we work collaboratively as a team and with partners to plan for rising sea levels in the estuary.

  • Experience/skills required
  • We are looking for someone who:
  • Is ambitious and eager to learn new skills and information about the Thames Estuary 2100 programme and the areas we work.
  • Takes a proactive approach to managing a varied workload and can work with team members to take decisions and prioritise.
  • Is a good communicator, works well both independently or in a team/s and stakeholders. Can build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Has strong organisation and time management skills,
  • Takes an active role in team discussions, is confident to ask questions or share their thoughts and ideas.
  • Is comfortable working with data, managing information, and producing reports using templates or guidance from colleagues
  • Has good recording keeping and writing skills
  • Has good IT skills, particularly relating to the Microsoft Office suite. Experience with mapping, and modelling and GIS would be beneficial but not essential GIS
  • Contact and additional information
  • The role will be based in London and will therefore attract London weighting. There may be occasional travel to other local area offices and opportunity to work from home if this is preferable.
We are currently transitioning back into the office so there will be a mix of home and office working.

Interviews will be held week commencing 3 July 2023.
