    Description

Who we are: NMITE is an innovative new entrant in UK Higher Education in Hereford, with its eyes firmly on regional impact and a global reputation. We have ambitious aims to widen access to higher education, support lifelong learning in technology and engineering, to support industry and transform careers. Supported by the Government, industry, and the engineering profession, we aim to be a game-changer in every facet of our operations and educational programmes. NMITE's approach to teaching is highly interactive – we don't use lectures or traditional exams; we do use challenge-led, industry-linked learning experiences and we are proud advocates of learning by doing.

To thrive in our environment, you'll need a can-do attitude, a solve-it mindset, the willingness to learn (NMITE is a new provider – on an exciting journey), the ability to work with all our multidisciplinary teams, and we are not going to say no to a good sense of humour when the going gets tough

    Tasks

    Job Role:

As an Engineering Technician at NMITE, you will:

    • Prepare and maintain equipment for demonstrations, practical class work, and projects.
    • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, coordinating with suppliers and contractors.
    • Procure materials and consumables for workshops and learning activities, ensuring adequate stock levels.
    • Manufacture components and resources needed for teaching using workshop facilities.
    • Advise students and staff on equipment and methods for achieving specific outcomes in design, manufacture, and assembly activities.
    • Supervise students' use of workshop equipment, providing basic training and instruction.
    • Maintain records of machine maintenance and induction and training of workshop users.
    • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for safe working.
    • Assist learning facilitators in preparing learning spaces.

    • Background in hands-on engineering.
    • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English at Grade C or above.
    • Professional registration with an engineering or technology institute (or willingness to work towards this)
    • Ability to build positive rapport with students and colleagues.

    Key Skills & Behaviours:

    • Reliable and committed to delivering high-quality service.
    • A team player with the ability to advise and guide others.
    • Able to communicate clearly, creatively, and patiently.
    • Willing to learn and engage in additional training.
    • A problem-solver with a creative and innovative mindset.
    • Possesses a good sense of humour.

    Benefits

    Our values:

    • Grit and determination. We will be determined in everything we do, demonstrating the staying power needed to see things through.
    • Inclusive. We will respect every individual and every voice will be equally important. We will have a community of students learning with people from a variety of backgrounds and our staff team will be equally diverse.
    • Creative and learning. We will test the boundaries of existing practice and find new ways of doing things. We will always seek to justify the "new" in our title. We will try new things with humility, accepting mistakes and learning from them. We will always seek to learn from experiences by sharing openly what went well and what went wrong.
    • We will always be courteous and respectful but also honest and straightforward when dealing with each other. We will not hide from uncomfortable truths and staff will be provided with the information they seek to do their jobs and to be well informed about our progress.
    • Curious. We will encourage scrutiny from each other and welcome questions from any colleagues – whoever they are and whatever their role. Communication will always be assumed to be a two-way process. Colleagues should always ask for information they feel they need that is not being provided and we will always listen to each other.
    • Aligned. We will always work to advance the institution's mission and its core aims, whatever our role. We will challenge work that does not align with our mission. We will work to break down barriers between teams to ensure that more goals are shared and that we succeed together.
