About Adam Walker:
I am a second-year undergraduate at Warwick University, studying History and Politics. I am currently taking a gap year and am looking for full-time or part-time work in the retail sector or with a leading customer services organisation. My experience of work and volunteering has enabled me to develop highly effective customer service and communication skills, to work effectively in teams and to organise my own work and that of others. Having worked in the public, private and charity sectors I have developed the ability to empathise with and respond to the needs of customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and to be effective in a wide range of situations and circumstances, often working under pressure.

(June 2024 – October 2024) - Sales Assistant – WH Smith - Manchester Airport
- Responsible for the independent management of key activities within 2 stores in the Airport. My responsibilities covered several positions of trust including cash handling, opening and closing the stores and maintenance and cleanliness of premises.
- Successfully completed and applied training in key processes including: Responsible merchandising, theft prevention, first aid, upselling, and security protocols. I successfully completed GSAT Airside Security Test, have a clean DBS record.
- Built strong customer service skills often dealing with challenging customers e.g. who were facing delays. Through this I learned how to serve customers and be effective in a high-pressure environment.
(May 2023 – June 2023) - Sales Assistant – The Marketing Group/APPCO
- Conducted door-to-door residential sales for charities and businesses. This allowed me to gain experience in selling direct to customers to develop my communication and organisation skills and to demonstrate personal resilience and determination.
(March 2021 – March 2022) - Member of UK Youth Parliament, representing Trafford.
- Lead and organised campaigns and conferences on issues affecting young people in Trafford, including: Environmental damage, mental health awareness, homelessness, and knife crime. Developed skills and experience in logistics, crisis management, safeguarding and communication with the public, working with charities and other young people to organise workshops and political education.
(September 2020 – Present) - Volunteer/organiser. The Trussell Trust Food Bank Coventry, St Paul’s Cathedral, Salford
- Responsible for quality control and managing food stocks. Gained experience in teamwork, working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
- Sorted and delivered presents for disadvantaged people during key holidays (Lent, Easter, Christmas etc). This role helped me build personal resilience, developed my organisational skills and gave me more experience dealing with members of the public who were vulnerable and often in in challenging situations.
