Working under an agency as a support worker enabled me to work in different residential care homes and day centres where every day is different. I have been able to work with both adult and youth service use. My responsibilities includes:

Understanding each service users needs and triggers and acting accordingly to each of their needs  Assisting service users with daily tasks including all care assistance such as personal hygiene care, daily routines, and social activity support. 

Meal preparation and household chores while helping them live as independently as possible  Ensuring that service users are comfortable and privacy is given when needed  Encouraging service users to engage in hobbies and healthy activities.

Ensuring the safety of service users while going in and out of the home either for shopping or for a walk around the park.

Encourage independence by helping service users to develop and strengthen skills allowing them to engage in more self-care.

Applying empathetic communication skills when conversing with families and providing emotional support.

Creating weekly activity plan mostly with day centre service users and making them decide on what they would like to do for the day and the rest of the week.

Treat service users with dignity and respect at all times.

Promoting the well-being of service users by providing the highest quality care possible.

Updating the record of care at the end of each day to ensure an adequate record is kept
